摘要
The contemporary debate on early childhood education, both in theory and practice, reveals the need for systematic educational monitoring. Current German research and the existing data in the Federal Republic have failed to satisfy this need until now. The National Educational Panel Study (NEPS) is now trying to fill this gap. This article informs about the two NEPS cohorts of early childhood that have begun and discusses the analytical possibilities concerning both the participants and the attributes of the corresponding learning environments.
