THEORETICAL CONTRIBUTION TO THE STUDY OF PRESSURE-VOLUME RELATION IN LEFT-VENTRICLE

摘要
A model of the left ventricle as an elastic thick-walled cylinder is considered. The active force of the myocardium in the radial direction is calculated by means of body force (force per unit volume of the myocardium). A new mathematical equation is given for the pressure-volume relation. The mathematical model derived shows that the active radial force of the myocardium is equal to the isovolumic pressure (inertia forces neglected). Clinical applications of the results are discussed.
