In 33 chronic ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) patients and 21 hemodialysis patients, blood pressure, exchangeable sodium, plasma renin activity, and aldosterone were studied comparatively. Mean blood pressure was comparable in both dialysis groups. There were no statistically significant differences in mean exchangeable sodium values between the CAPD, hemodialysis, and control groups. Plasma renin activity and plasma aldosterone levels were higher in dialysis patients than in controls but similar in CAPD patients and hemodialysis patients. No correlations were found in either dialysis group between mean blood pressure and mean exchangeable sodium, plasma renin activity or plasma aldosterone level.
