A MODEL POLYMER-BOUND ANTIOXIDANT SYSTEM FOR LUBRICANTS

摘要
A model system for polymer-bound antioxidants relevant to the development of multipurpose lubricating oil additives is proposed. To this end, a series of copolymers has been made from hydroxyethyl methacrylate and butyl methacrylate. The hydroxy groups of the former were reacted with 3,5-di-t-butyl-4-hydroxy-benzoyl chloride, which is a functionalized antioxidant. When dissolved in di-isopropyl adipate base oil, these polymers were able to increase significantly the oxidation onset temperature of the fluid, as measured by oxidative differential scanning calorimetry.
