A SCREW DISLOCATION INTERFACTING WITH AN ELASTIC ELLIPTIC INHOMOGENEITY

This article considers the interaction effects between a screw dislocation and an elastic elliptical inhomogeneity. A general solution to the problem is obtained through the use of conformal mapping and the complex variable method. The appropriate expressions of the complex potentials are derived explicitly in both the elliptical inhomogeneity and the surrounding matrix when the screw dislocation is located either outside or inside the inhomogeneity. Results are presented in both mapped and physical coordinates and contain the previous known solutions as special cases. The interaction energy between the dislocation and the inhomogeneity is also evaluated and a proof to a previous conjecture by Sendeckyj [5] is provided.
