摘要
Different post-core systems were used to prosthodontic treatments for teeth, which were endodontically treated or had excessive loss of coronal tooth structures, from past to present. In the past, when only metal post systems were used, but because of rising aesthetic expectations and developing of adhesive dentistry, manufacturers have tried to find new materials, finally ceramic and fiber reinforced composite post systems have been developed. Each post system has its advantages and disadvantages. The success or failure of restoration is directly related to knowing the characteristics of the post. The most significant features of post systems are having similar physical properties to dentin, being compatible with the surrounding tissue and prosthetic restoration, causing minimal stress on teeth and being easy to practice. Aim of this review is to evaluate the post systems and examine the place of the future.
