摘要
The third generation mobile system will be a multiservice, multi-environment, multi-operator network. With this complexity, the approach to perform location registration and paging for mobile units has to be reconsidered. This paper discusses the provision of roaming capability options for the mobile users in order to alleviate the amount of signalling traffic within the system. Furthermore, a simple model for the estimation of the number of signalling channels for location registration and paging is also provided. Finally, the implications of mixed cell architectures, metropolitan area networks and mobile customer premises networks are discussed. It is noted that efficient deregistration of inactive mobile units is important to reduce the amount of unnecessary and unsuccessful paging message transmissions.
