摘要：

This essay is devoted to the investigation of some questions of social development the city of York, which was the regional capital of Northern England in the Middle Ages and Early Modern times. The author showed the growth of material differentiation among townsman, the intensifying of merchant's oligarchy in the town government and the attempts of municipal authorities to solve the problem of poverty.
