摘要
The influence of thermal and mechanical effects on the structural perfection of the surface of sapphire hollow waveguides and their optical properties is investigated. It is concluded that in order to obtain waveguides having low losses it is desirable to anneal them after grinding; in this case the internal stresses and the height of the roughnesses are reduced and the distance between them is increased. No heat treatment is advised after mechanical polishing.
