摘要
The following collection contains a subset of the papers prepared for a conference organized by the International Labor Office, Cornell University, and the University of California at Berkeley on the subject of the changing balance between state, market, and civil organizations in development strategies. In this first essay, the justification for the conference, the main novel theoretical ideas presented, and the implications for development strategies and rural development are summarized.
