Phase shifts for α-α elastic scattering in the one-channel region cannot be fitted with an ordinary static potential; an interaction containing singular components is required. It is found that with such a potential the three lowest levels of 8Be are represented by poles on separate Regge trajectories, which are reminiscent of relativistic daughter trajectories. A five-pole Cheng representation of the scattering phase shifts is described. © 1969.
