Surgical treatment of atrial fibrillation is an efficient procedure, which has been simplified in recent time by intraoperative ablation systems. We herein review a variety surgical techniques and its results and update the current clinical recommendations for ablation of persistent and longstanding persistent atrial fibrillation.
