SUCCESSFUL TREATMENT OF ERYTHROMELALGIA WITH SODIUM-NITROPRUSSIDE

Erythromelalgia is a very rare disorder with symmetrical involvement of the hands and feet, making them puffy and red with intense burning pain in the involved areas. The hands and feet are warmer than the other parts of the body; the pain is often ameliorated upon immersion in cold water. Therapy, except in a few patients, has been ineffective. A 9 yr old girl with erythromelalgia whose symptoms were controlled following infusion of sodium nitroprusside is described.
