摘要
A method for determining the pK(a) values of substituted phenols based on anodic voltammetry has been validated and applied to various cases. In this method the dependence of the electrochemical oxidation potentials of phenols on the solution pH is investigated. pK(a) values have been determined for 100 phenolic compounds, including 57 for which pK(a) values have not been evaluated. Unknown values of some substituent sigma constants have also been determined. In the case of the electro-oxidation of salicylic acid and its derivatives a kinetic effect due to intramolecular deprotonation of the phenolic OH was observed.
