摘要
This article presents emergent core interprofessional competencies for health and social care developed through multiple qualitative approaches including literature review, extant data review, nominal group techniques, participant observation, and reliance on a variety of data sources. Core interprofessional competencies identified include: communication and interpersonal skills, systems based health practice, and professionalism. The proposed competencies are presented within a conceptual framework which integrates cultural theory, open systems theory, social cognitive theory and the Health Belief Model. Organizational and community competencies necessary to provide a supportive environment for patient centered interprofessional practice to flourish are also outlined.
