An experiment was conducted during 1989-90 to study the heritability of 7 characters in silkworm (Bombyx mori L.). Heritability (broad sense) was very high (71.4-86.7%) for larval duration, single-shell weight, filament length, 10-mature-worm weight and single-cocoon weight. Moderate heritability (< 70%) was observed for cocoon yield (65.3%) and shell ratio (69.8%), indicating that these 2 characters were influenced by the environment.
