A SOLID STATE SCINTILLATION DETECTOR FOR HIGH-ENERGY CHARGED PARTICLES

摘要
A completely solid state scintillation detector for high energy charged particles is described. The device consists of a scintillator, a photodiode to which the scintillator can be optically coupled, and a charged sensitive preamplifier, all mounted in a small tubular assembly. The viability of the device as a detector for use in nuclear and high energy physics is demonstrated, and its properties examined. Results are given with various scintillators stopping 48.8 MeV protons, the best energy resolution being 2% fwhm when CsI(Tl) is used. © 1969.
