METHOD OF THE MEASUREMENT OF A SUPERSMALL BEAM SIZE IN ELECTRON POSITRON COLLIDERS BY COMPTON-SCATTERING

摘要
A new method of measurement of submicron transverse sizes of an electron beam is discussed. This method permits the definition of the electron-positron luminosity without taking into account the beam-beam interaction effects by using information from the electron-photon Compton scattering. Analytic formulae and quantitative estimations are given for the most significant parameters of an experimental condition. As shown in this article better than 10% accuracy can easily be achieved at the measurements of the electron beam sizes for the FFTB experiment at SLAC and about 20% accuracy for the VLEPP project at Protvino.
