MASS RENORMALIZATION AND SQUEEZING OF A MATERIAL HARMONIC-OSCILLATOR

摘要
The spread in space of a negatively charged mass bound by elastic forces to an oscillation centre is studied from the point of view of quantum electrodynamics. It is shown that, if renormalization of the mass of the negative charge is taken into account, no squeezing on the dressed oscillator occurs, although the field modes are squeezed by the interaction. This lack of symmetry is shown to stem from cancellation of squeezing terms originating from selfreaction and from vacuum fluctuations. © 1990 Taylor & Francis Ltd.
