摘要
The detection of a coherent radiative signal of known phase in the absence of background noise is treated in the framework of the quantum-mechanical form of detection theory. The error probabilities of the optimum detector assess the effects of quantum-mechanical uncertainly alone on the detectability of such a signal; they are compared with those attained by a quasi-classical threshold detector and by a detector that counts the number of photons. The question of sufficient statistics in quantum detection and estimation is discussed. © 1968 Academic Press Inc.
