Texture alterations and their effect on the kinetics of grain growth were investigated by computer simulation. The initial system was described by the distribution of grain sizes and grain misorientations. The behaviour of grain systems with high and low spread of preferred orientation was investigated. The major texture component can strengthen or weaken in grain growth depending on its spread and initial microstructure, especially the mutual displacement of size distributions of grains having different orientations. At a low spread the strengthening of the major texture component should be observed in the initial stage of grain growth. The acceleration of grain growth is found when a strengthening of minor texture components takes place. The kinetics of secondary recrystallization in material with low spread of the major texture component are affected by the initial microstructure. © 1979.
