AN EPR STUDY OF TRIVALENT IRON IN WARDITE

摘要
EPR of Fe3+ in a natural phosphate single crystal (wardite) revealed the presence of only one prominent center in orthorhombic symmetry. From the orientation of the principal axes of the spin Hamiltonian parameters it is concluded that the center results from the substitution of Fe3+ for Al(2) which is the larger of the two available aluminum sites in this mineral. This result is in agreement with previous investigations in similar cases in which the larger site of a smaller host ion is preferentially occupied.
