LATENCY OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND ITS CONSEQUENCES. DEFINING THE PROBLEM

The paper highlights one of the problems of domestic violence - its natural latency. According to data from the Russian Statistics Bureau the mortality structure of population aged 18-60 shows that more people die from illnesses and suicides than from homicide and that the number of ill people and infertile women in the country has considerably grown. The absence of realistic statistical data on domestic violence, in view of numerous foreign studies, indicates that certain illnesses are consequences of domestic violence's latency which persists from generation to generation. By analyzing the revealed tendencies, the author presents a number of specific organizational and practical measures that could contribute to the collection of realistic data on the scope of domestic violence as well as offers some recommendations that could alleviate the negative domestic phenomena and improve the demographic situation in the country.
