REMELTING OF THE SURFACE-LAYER OF ALN CERAMICS UNDER LASER-RADIATION EFFECT

The results are described of experimental studies into remelting of the surface layer of AlN ceramics, carried out for the first time under laser radiation effect in a high-pressure nitrogen atmosphere of an increased pressure over an area of more than 1 x 1 mm(2). The possibility is shown of obtaining, for 99.0% pure AlN ceramics, a uniformly remelted layer 300 mcm thick over an area of 5 x 5 mm(2) and more by scanning laser radiation with a flux density of 3.2 x 10(3) W cm(-2) (230 +/- 5 W) with a linear velocity of 0.25 +/- 0.05 cm/s over the surface of the vertically-positioned sample.
