ANODIC-DISSOLUTION OF SILVER ALLOYS AT THE DECRYSTALLIZATION STAGE - INTERDEPENDENCE OF COMPONENTS

Introduction of gold or palladium into silver is experimentally shown not to alter the mechanism of anodic silver dissolution (silver being in the active state) in nitrate electrolyte at the decrystallization stage. However, these two metals significantly inhibit elementary stages of such dissolution, namely, surface diffusion of silver adatoms between linear atomic steps as well as generation and growth of hollow nuclei. Selective dissolution of solid solutions of Ag-Au and Ag-Pd systems that display negative deviations from the Raoult law are considered. Interdependence of components in these systems is attributed to specific features of interrelations between the species, and first of all, between the atoms.
