Objective: Analize the relationship between Primary Health Care (PHC) and Mental Health Care (MHC). To study referrals from PHC to MHC and how to improve this aspect. Design: Systematic review as bibliometric study on the relationship between PHC and MHC and referrals. Data Sources: Bibliographic databases PubMed and Cochrane. Search for 5 or 10 years. Older articles referenced in the first search were added if they were relevant. A combination of MeSH terms and free text with "Boolean" operator was used. Studies of our environment, the large sample size, the novel contributions or describing interventions were prioritized. Results: 6979 articles were found. After selection, 61 articles were studied. Conclusions: Variability and methodological flaws were found in many of the studies on the relationship between PHC and MHC are remarkable, highlighting the assessment of long-term results. General practitioners are able to manage non-severe psychiatric disorders.
