Background: Allergic reactions due to contact with pets can be observed almost daily in the allergy ambulance, whereas reports about allergic symptoms when handling reptiles are extremely rare in the medical literature. Case report: This case report presents a patient who developed allergic asthma and rhinitis after several years of keeping a Green Iguana. Enzyme-allergosorbent test (EAST) and provocation test confirmed, that the reactions were due to specific IgE mediated hypersensitivity against the urine of the iguana. Conclusion: Allergic reactions are rare in reptile holders, but should raise suspicion of the existence of sensitisation to the urine of reptiles.
