OBSERVATION OF THE SUPERCONDUCTING GAP IN BI2SR2CACU2O8+DELTA SINGLE-CRYSTALS BY RAMAN-SPECTROSCOPY

The electronic continuum observable by Raman scattering on the ab-plane of Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+δ single crystals has been analyzed for different polarization directions at room temperature and at 5 K. In Ag - symmetry, a superconducting gap has been detected with an energy of 2 Δ ≈ 330 cm-1 (42 meV). The line shape of the electronic continuum for this symmetry is due to intraband electronic Raman scattering. The Blg - spectra reveal at low temperatures a nearly linear rise of the electronic scattering intensity from {fx01v} = 0 cm-1 up to {fx02v} ≈ 480 cm-1, dropping off at higher frequencies, which can be interpreted in terms of interband scattering. © 1990, Elsevier Science Publishers B.V.
