摘要：
A highly nonlinear optical absorption occurs in certain rare-earth ionic crystals for light resonant only with transitions between excited states of the rare earth ion. We describe a process by which coupling to the ground state through nonradioactive cross-relaxation sustains the absorption and leads to significant excited state populations. © 1990.
