摘要：

Various codes of practices have permitted the analysis of building frames both for dead and live loads by substitute frame method. This method is permitted for symmetrical and asymmetrical frames and no limitation is placed on the number of storeys. There appears to be oversimplification to facilitate the convenience of design offices. In view of the availability of micro-processors at very cheap rates, a fresh look into substitute frame analysis is suggested.
