摘要:
A simple spectrophotometric method for the determination of m-cresol, a highly toxic organic compound has been described. In this method, m-cresol is nitrosated by sodium nitrite. The nitrosated compound is then complexed with Fe3+ ion to give a yellow-orange complex with maximum absorption at 400 nm. Interference of various organic compounds and metal ions has been studied. The Beer's law is obeyed in the range of 0.1-1 ppm of m-cresol. The method has been applied for the analysis of m-cresol in biological samples.
