摘要
Forty mm thick plates of quenched and tempered steels StE 690 and StE 470 V and normalized steel 460 N were test welded by the GMA-narrow-gap welding process using two welding heads in tandem arrangement. The toughness and strength properties of the welded joints were evaluated by conventional tests and fracture mechanics methods. Due to the process-specific appropriate weld buildup, the evaluation of the heat-affected zones by various test methods failed to reveal any major effect on the ductile to brittle transition temperatures of the parent metals. Micropores in the weld metal resulted in a deterioration of the toughness values only in 'severe' fracture mechanics tests.
