VON HIPPEL LINDAU SYNDROME AND ANAESTHETIC CONSIDERATIONS

Von Hippel Lindau (VHL) Syndrome is a rare autosomal dominant disorder characterized by the presence of haemangioblastomas in the brain, spinal cord and retina with associated involvement of kidneys, liver, spleen, pancreas, adrenals and thyroid gland. The involvement of multiple organ systems, affiliated endocrine abnormalities and the need for multiple surgeries pose a considerable challenge to the attending anaesthesiologist. We present case reports of two patients of VHL syndrome who underwent successful excision of multiple cerebellar and upper cervical spinal cord haemangioblastomas under general anaesthesia.
