THE REGULAR CANONS OF THE HOLY SEPULCHER OF JERUSALEN IN THE IBERIAN PENINSULA (XII-XV CENTURIES)

This work outlines the history of the canons of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem in the Iberian Peninsula after 1126. This Order originated from the canonry founded by Gofredo of Bouillon in the Anastasis after 1099, so that the Divine Office was recited in that place according to the Latin rite. Along with the premonstratensians, the canons of Saint Anthony the Abbot and Saint Rufo of Avignon, the regular canons of the Holy Sepulchre arrived in the Iberian territory on the occasion of the Gregorian Reform. In 1131, Alfonso I the Batller, king of Aragon, bequeathed his kingdom to the chapter of the Holy Sepulchre and the knights of the Temple and the Hospitaller Order of Jerusalem.
