IF A CLIENT HAS THIS KIND OF PROBLEM, PRESCRIBE THAT KIND OF POSTSESSION BEHAVIOR

Data consisted of 100 studies, drawn from nine representative journals of psychotherapy research, in which the design included the use of prescribed post-session behaviors or homework assignments. The research question was whether there was a relationship between categories of client problems and the kinds of post-session behaviors that were prescribed. Findings yielded a provisional matrix in which significantly different categories of post-session behaviors were prescribed for identified categories of client problems. The discussion emphasizes how practitioners may prescribe particular kinds of postsession behaviors for particular kinds of client problems.
