摘要
The boundary-layer theory of free turbulent shear flows is reviewed and extended. Paradoxes encountered with the classical boundary-layer theory are discussed, and sources of the paradoxes are identified. The boundary-layer theory is then extended to account for the interaction of free shear flows and their induced flows. Asymptotic expansions of the basic equations including the balance equation of turbulent kinetic engergy reveal a multi-layered structure of the free shear flows. Applications include problems that cannot be treated by classical methods.
