LICHEN-PLANUS PIGMENTOSUS ASSOCIATED WITH ACROKERATOSIS OF BAZEX

A patient with an acquired pigmentation related to lichen planus pigmentosus is described. Features of acrokeratosis of Bazex were associated, related to a head and neck carcinoma. Both cutaneous conditions disappeared after treatment of the neoplasia. Diagnostic criteria of lichen planus pigmentosus are reviewed. The paraneoplastic nature of this original observation of lichen planus pigmentosus is discussed. Acrokeratosis of Bazex is a classical example of a paraneoplastic condition. Lichen planus, usually the vesiculobullous variant, has been reported in association with underlying malignancies.(1) A few years ago, we observed a patient who developed simultaneously lichen planus pigmentosus and associated acrokeratosis of Bazex. Treatment of an associated head and neck cancer caused resolution of both diseases. Long-term follow-up of the patient and review of the literature prompted us to present this case-report. To our knowledge, the association of these two conditions has not so far been reported.
