摘要
Transition pieces find wide application in the process industry. They are used to join ducts of dissimilar cross-sections and sizes. The two cross-sections may have their axes intersecting or offset, with any angle of inclination between them. A simple method has been presented here to obtain the developed surface of the transition piece when the geometries and the position of the axes of the two cross-sections are known. The dimensions of the developed surface are calculated. An algorithm has been implemented to find the optimum rectangle enclosing the developed surface. An illustrative example is presented to demonstrate the suitability and correctness of the method.
