A bellows volumometer has been used to obtain volume ratios relative to 0.1 MPa for pentan-3-one at the temperatures (278.15, 288.15, 298.15, 313.15, 323.15, and 338.15) K for pressures up to 400 MPa, or close to the freezing pressure, whichever is the lower. These have been used to evaluate the effects of pressure on isothermal compressibility and thermal expansivity. The correlation of the Tait form developed previously for normal ketones using results for propanone and butan-2-one predicts the volumetric properties for pentan-3-one usually within experimental error. This correlation also is effective well outside the temperature and pressure range on which it is based for predicting volume ratios for pentan-3-one. © 1993 Academic Press Ltd.
