摘要
Peer support specialists (PSS) are individuals in recovery from a substance use disorder who contribute to substance use treatment by offering support to clients based on shared experience. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration recognizes four types of social support that may be provided by PSS: emotional, informational, instrumental, and affiliational. This qualitative study consisted of interviews with PSS, clients, and agency staff and examines the social support that PSS provide during three different treatment phases: treatment, transitions in treatment, and recovery management. Study findings provide insight into the types and timing of support provided by PSS.
