The cospectrum between the velocity fluctuations u (longitudinal) and nu (lateral) in the intermediate wake of a circular cylinder can exhibit a change of sign around the average vortex shedding frequency. A possible explanation for this sign change is proposed. There is no corresponding sign change in the cospectrum between nu and the temperature fluctuation theta, pointing to an important difference between the ways in which momentum and heat are transported by the vortices. The nutheta cospectrum is enhanced at the shedding frequency, and accordingly the turbulent Prandtl number assumes relatively small values.
