REACTIONS OF MOLYBDENUM ARSENIC TETRAHEDRANES WITH FE2(CO)9 AND FE3(CO)12

By co-photolysis of (mu3-As)(C5H4R)3Mo3(CO)6 (R = H (1a), R = Me (1b)) with Fe3(CO)12 (2) the clusters (mu4-As)(C5H4R)3Fe3Mo3(CO)17 (R = H) (3a), R = Me (3b)), (mu4-As)-(C5H4R)3FeMo3(CO)10 (R = H (4a), R = Me (4b)) and (mu4-As)(C5H4R)3Fe2Mo3(CO)12 (R = H (5a), R = Me (5b)) were synthesized. Thermal reaction of As2Cp2Mo2(CO)4 (6a) with Fe2(CO)9 (7) or Fe3(CO)12 (2) yields the complex (mu4-As)2Cp2Fe3Mo2(CO)15 (8) having the structure of a square pyramid. Co-photolysis of As2Cp'2Mo2(CO)4 (6b) (Cp' = C5H4Me) with Fe2(CO)9 (7) leads to the cluster As2Cp'2Mo2Fe4(CO)17 (9) with a mu5-As moiety. X-ray diffraction studies of 3a, 5b, 8 and 9 are described.
