NEW BREEDING LINES OF SOYBEAN HAVING A GENE FOR RESISTANCE TO YELLOW-MOSAIC VIRUS FROM GLYCINE-SOJA LINN SIEB AND ZUCC

G. soja Linn. Sieb. and Zucc. (= G. formosana Hosokawa), a wild soybean, was used as a source of resistance to yellow-mosaic virus and 37 advanced breeding lines were developed. The breeding procedure involved back-crossing of the F1 of g. soja .times. ''Bragg'' [G. max (Linn.) Merr.] with ''Bragg'', followed by handling of the BC1 plants as per pedigree method. This procedure was simple and adequate. The newly developed lines had resistance to yellow-mosacic and outyielded ''Bragg'' one of the most promising lines was ''PK 486''.
