THEORY OF SCATTERING OF POLARIZED RADIATION IN A RANDOMLY INHOMOGENEOUS MAGNETIZED PLASMA

摘要
A theoretical investigation of spatial coherence of polarized radio emission from cosmic sources at spatially separate observing sites has revealed that weak circular polarization is produced in a randomly inhomogeneous magnetized plasma. Fluctuations of the longitudinal magnetic field in the medium lead to opposite shifts of the phase velocity of right- and left-handed polarized waves, which results, in tum, in relative enhancement of linear polarization for a longer interferometer baseline.
