ENTHALPIES OF SOLUTION OF MALONIC, GLUTARIC, ASCORBIC, AND DL-ASPARTIC ACIDS IN WATER AND OF FUMARIC-ACID IN 0.1 MOL.DM-3 HCL

Enthalpies of solution of five organic acids in water were measured in a Parr calorimeter. The molar enthalpies of solution are: ΔsolHm(298.20 K, m = 0.0299 mol·kg-1) = (21.3±0.4) kJ·mol-1 and ΔsolHm(298.20 K, m = 0.0470 mol·kg-1) = (20.1±0.6) kJ·mol-1 for malonic acid; ΔsolHm(298.16 K, m = 0.0048 mol·kg-1) = (34.3±1.2) kJ·mol-1 for glutaric acid; ΔsolHm(298.19 K, 0.1 mol·dm-3 HCl, m = 0.00119 mol·kg-1) = (68.7±3.9) kJ·mol-1 for fumaric acid; ΔsolHm(298.22 K, m = 0.0128 mol·kg-1) = (25.0±0.6) kJ·mol-1 and ΔsolHm(298.27 K, m = 0.0275 mol·kg-1) = (23.3±0.3) kJ·mol-1 for ascorbic acid; and ΔsolHm(298.18 K, m = 0.0148 mol·kg-1) = (33.5±0.5) kJ·mol-1 for dl-aspartic acid. © 1990.
