THE ORIGIN OF MAXIMA ON ADSORPTION-ISOTHERMS OF ANIONIC SURFACTANTS ON AG-3 ACTIVATED CARBON

摘要
A study has been made of the adsorption of the anionic sodium decylsulfonate (DCNa), sodium dodecylsulfate (DDCNa), and sodium tetradecylsulfonate (TDCNa) on porous AG-3 carbon and nonporous acetylene black. It has been found that the adsorption isotherms of DDCNa and TDCNa on AG-3 carbon exhibit maxima in the region of the critical concentration for micelle formation, while the adsorption isotherm for DCNa is stepped. From the structure of the adsorbed layer at the boundary surface and the structural characteristics of the ions and micelles, an explanation is given for the occurrence of maxima on the adsorption isotherms of DDCNa and TDCNa on AG-3 carbon.
