Functional imaging by means of single photon emission tomography Tc-99m-HMPAO has a twin interest in the investigation of symptomatic partial epilepsies. Its clinical value is provided by the localization of the epileptogenic zone in refractory partial epilepsies to be submitted to surgical procedures such as lobectomy or cortitectomy. Interictal hypofixation, ictal or immediate post-ictal hyperfixation, evidenced regionally characterize the electroencephalographic epileptogenic zone. Pathphysiological value includes both the functional mechanisms of the primary epileptogenic process and those related to recurrent seizuers (secondary epileptogenesis).
