Abnormalities in lipid metabolism are known as risk factors concerning circulatory and vascular diseases. They are associated with a high incidence of haemorheological and thrombotic abnormalities in blood fluidity. With regard to diagnosis and treatment the question seems to be interesting whether unphysiological blood fluidity caused by hyperlipoproteinemia coudl be ameliorated without medication. 24 patients suffering from hyperliprotemia were treated by a basic isocaloric lipid diet. Several parameters were determined as follows: body weight, triglycerides, cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, apoprotein B and A1, haematocrit, plasma viscosity, fibrinogen, red cell deformability, thrombocyte aggregation and fibrinolytic activity. After supplementation with unsaturated fatty acids there was a small decrease of triglycerides. Plasma viscosity was distinctly falling after lin-seed oil treatment on account of reduced tryglyceride, cholesterol and apolipoprotein B fractions about 30-50 percent. In conclusion it is suggested that these changes lead to an amelioration of microcirculation and influence the interactions between vessel volume and vascular endothelium.
