It is intended to formulate a computer simulation of drying induced stresses and strains. As wood drying involves two strongly coupled phenomena, the first part of the paper is devoted to the modelling of heat and moisture transport, using Whitaker's theory (1977) and a finite element formulation (2D profiles of temperature and moisture content are shown at different stages of the drying process), in a second part we use these data, in a rheological law, to determine stresses and stains: the constitutive Ranta-Maunus law (1979) is adopted and a mathematical formulation of it is given, time discretization by a theta method and space discretization by finite elements are presented. At the end of the paper, stress fields given by either an elastic model or a mechanosorptive one are compared and discussed.
