摘要
The physical properties of the lignin coproduct of a recycled ethanol-solvent pulping process (ALCELL(R) Process) were measured. The lignin was used as a partial substitution (20% and 35%) of phenol in resole phenol-formaldehyde (PF) resins. The physical properties (nonvolatile solids, viscosity, gel time, and molecular weight) of the formulated resins were measured before use and compared to a commercial PF resin used to bond oriented strandboards (OSB). The results indicate that organosolv lignin produced with an ethanol-pulping medium is a feasible replacement for up to 35% of the phenol in OSB-type PF resins.
